Blick ins Buch
Classic Technique Rediscovered | Upgrade for Design and Illustration
The only complicated thing about this technique is really only its name. Otherwise you can work with considerably diluted Gouache almost the same as with watercolors. Handled in pasty form, you can opaquely apply it layer after layer and enjoy the velvety-matte surface which is reminiscent of pastels. Gouache is soluble in water and thus forgives “mistakes”, it allows for corrections and reworking. The fine grain of the pigments makes detailed drawings possible. Indeed, it demands for them really. Gouache dries quickly, is non-toxic and inexpensive.
For a long time, however, Gouache has led a shadowy existence. This ends now. For in this book, one of Germany’s most renowned illustrators – Aljoscha Blau – presents his favorite technique. Internationally bestowed with awards and honors, Russian by birth, he lives and works in Berlin these days. He holds teaching positions in Germany and Denmark and passes his know-how on in seminars and workshops.
Now, for the first time, he shares his many years of experience in book form. He offers shopping and material recommendations for swift success. Suggestions and instructions on composition, tools and work steps round off this compendium. And the range and quality of his works, the creation of which Blau partly presents in detail make this book a feast for the eye.
Multitalent Gouache gives you security and support, impulses and instructions – and it arouses boundless desire to prepare paper and to try gouache. The entry-level barriers into this new technique are low, quickly you’ll hold results in hands which are presentable and make good gifts.
